GALUH UNIVERSITY (GU)

         GU was founded by Yayasan Pendidikan Galuh (Galuh Foundation for Education) in 1998. GU is located in Ciamis  (the so-called “Sweet City”), a nice small town in West Java Indonesia, approximately 3 hours east of the capital city of West Java province, Bandung.

        Ciamis regency, a town of 1,755.038 inhabitants, is known for Pangandaran Beach where international tourists can enjoy themselves by surfing, swimming, and having sightseeing. In 2012 academic year, GU enrolls more than 9,000 students, of which are representing over a hundred of regencies from Central and West Java provinces.

         GU is fully accredited. There are 18 majors offered to undergraduate students in seven faculties:

1. Faculty of Teacher Training and Educational Sciences

2. Faculty of Law

3. Faculty of Economics

4. Faculty of Agriculture

5. Faculty of Social and Politics Studies

6  Faculty of Engineering

 7. Faculty of Health Sciences

In addition, postgraduate studies cover two majors: Management and Education Programs

     The GU’s 8-acre campus features several important buildings: IT Center with hot-spot area (Warung Teknologi/ Warintek), Academic service and student office, Dean office, multipurpose sport hall centre, students’ union, mosque, the university library, and medical center.

BRIEF HISTORY

Galuh University (GU) was established based on the initiative of prominent society members of Ciamis regency who were eager to have a higher education institution where young generation of Ciamis regency can be prepared for serving as future leaders.

After a thoughtful process, on the 8th April 1998, GU was established through the Decree of Director of Directorate General of Higher Education, Indonesia Department of Education (No.: 114/SK/Dikti/1998) which issues the merger of several colleges under the same control of the mentioned foundation to be in one institution, GU, and officially endorsed by the Vice Governor of West Java Province on the 10th May 1998.

     At the time of establishment, GU had only six faculties, but now it has seven faculties and two majors of postgraduate studies. GU is developed to be one of the private leading higher educational institutions in West Java province, especially in Eastern Priangan zone (Garut, Tasikmalaya, and Ciamis regencies). GU offers postgraduate studies (Masters programs) consisting of 2 majors. The undergraduate studies consist of 18 study programs.

THE MISSIONS OF GU:  

1. Increasing the quality of the internal management of the higher educational institution which is able to improve the internal efficiency to elevate the image of institution;

2.  Developing institution to improve the quality and relevance of higher education institution in elevating the global world and the accessibility of higher education for the environment;

3.  Supporting and developing innovation in public and research services which help improve the competitiveness of local area for the national development;

4. Developing the leading program of higher education such as the number of international research publication, students and lecturers exchange, and international cooperation to face global competition;

5.  Producing leading outputs who are able to compete in global world. 

 

THE GOALS OF GU:

1. To reach the quality of management and assurance at the position as international higher education with the target to keep and improve the quality and competitiveness of output;

2.  To build infrastructures by providing facilities to improve the services for internal stakeholders;

3.  To guarantee the transparency and accountability of financial management; 

4.  To create a condition of human resources who have quality and ability to face global world;

5. To create a conducive academic atmosphere which supports the motivation of learning and working;

6. To increase the quality of educational services for the sake of stakeholders’ satisfaction;

7.  To develop an accountable organization;

8. To create  respectable scientists by mastering one of the knowledge, technology, certain art and apply them in global world.

FACILITIES:

Galuh University has 9 main buildings located in one area at Jln. R.E. Martadinata No. 150 Ciamis. The 9 buildings are:

1.   Rectorate building, used for academic administration processes and auditorium.

2.  Faculty of Teacher Training and Educational Sciences building, used for academic services of the students which consist of several classrooms and laboratories (language, biology, history, computer, and sports). Language Laboratory functions to give language services of international standard testing such as TOEFL, TOEIC, and IELTS. These international testing services are administered by GEC (Galuh English Centre).

3.  Faculty of Law building, used for academic process (teaching and learning), completed with academic services of Law students, and equipped with a law laboratory.

4.  Faculty of Economic building, used for teaching and learning process and other academic services.

5.  Faculty of Engineering building, used for teaching learning process of engineering students, completed with academic services of engineering students and facilitated with engineering and research laboratory.

6.  Faculty of Social Politics Studies building, used for teaching learning process and academic services of social politics students.

7.  Faculty of Agriculture building, used for teaching learning process and academic services of agriculture students.

8.  Faculty of Health Sciences building, used for teaching learning process and academic services of health sciences students.

9. Postgraduate Studies building, used for teaching and learning processes and academic services of postgraduate students. 

STUDENT AFFAIRS:

The student Associations of GU varies such as:

1.   Student Executive Board

The Student Executive Board has functions as the students’ representative association which consists of several students from all faculties.

2.   Moslem Students Union (DKM Raudhatul Muttaqien).

The activities are managed under DKM Raudltaul Muttaqien, it conducts several Islamic activities such as Islamic recitation, Islamic Education Mentoring, and Social charity services.

3.   Student Sport Clubs which include:

-          Basketball club

-          Football and Futsal club

-          Volleyball club

-          Badminton club

-          Boxer club

-          Hockey club

4.   Student Choir

5.   Student Regiment Organization


COOPERATION:

GU pays special attention to building and developing links with several organizations and universities.

 

DOMESTIC COOPERATION: 

1.  This cooperation is a prerequisite for enquiring the sustainability and quality of teaching and research at GU. 

2. Cooperation with Indonesia University of Education (UPI Bandung) for sharing teaching materials and visiting professors, as well as for conducting the TOEFL test and preparation.

3.  Cooperation with Padjadjaran University (UNPAD). 

4.   Cooperation with Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB).  

5.   Cooperation of research with local government and several institutions.

INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION:

1.   Cooperation in education with British council for research and development;

2.   Cooperation in research with TEFLIN.

3.   Cooperation in research with RELO.

4.   Cooperation in research with Monash University (Australia).

5.   Cooperation in research with Ohio State (USA).
